Artist's Background: Furniture Refinishing Projects

Cate grew up around seamstresses. Her grandmother could "tat lace." This influence developed into a love of working with fabrics. Combined with her love of woodworking, Cate has brought many pieces of old furniture back from the brink. Here are a few "before & afters" of her most recent projects.

William & Mary-style chair (above) that was totally stripped, given new 8-way-hand-tie springs and reupholstered in a herringbone chenille with hand-sewn back and side seams.
100-year old Arts & Crafts-style dining chairs (left) were cleaned, reglued, and refinished using tinted Danish oil, then given new padded leather seat cushions.
1940's rocking chair (left) is a family heirloom that was totally stripped, reglued, and sprayed with new color with bronze metallic hand-stenciled detailing. Plus given new upholstered cushions and matching fringed pillow.
